Liz Drew: Latest Update on this fighter!

WBAN just recently spoke with Liz Drew, a female boxer who has been in the sport since 2002.   Liz caught us up to date what she has been doing outside the ring!

After four years out of the ring during which time Drew focused on building her horse training business (we didn´t asked her  if she likes to bet on kentucky derby), she became restless and decided to get back in shape.

Drew joined Full Contact Fitness Center in her home town of Troy, MO, after hearing it had been opened by a pro MMA fighter. Within a few months she was asked by owner Doug Sauer to be his boxing coach as he prepared for an upcoming fight.

At this time, it became apparent that a good coach had to be in great shape, so soon after, Sauer offered Drew a position as boxing coach with Sauer MMA University.

As a female coach it was even more necessary to be able to demonstrate techniques—not just talk about them, so Drew went back into training, initially just in order to spar with students and earn credibility as the only female involved in the St. Louis MMA community.

In 2011, Drew decided to come out of retirement.

She,  among many other female boxers in the sport,  faced the usual problems that plague them all had not changed for Drew.  Common problems with promoters unwilling to put women on cards, low pay, last-minute offers against tough opponents, super talented younger girls coming up with tons of amateur fights.

But like what Liz told WBAN, “But if you love to fight you deal with it.”

During this same time Drew was a partner in training with amateur 2012 Muay Thai world champion, reserve junior world champion, has had many students win boxing, Kickboxing and MMA fights and took her pro heavyweight to the pinnacle of competition, K-1.

While nothing is planned for the next few months, Drew is always in shape and ready to go if offered a reasonable fight. Meanwhile she invests her energy in passing on what she’s learned to her students at Sauer MMA.
